How to Reach?

The beginning of the trek is in Dharamkot.McLeodGanj is the closest access point, whether you use a taxi, the public transportation system or your own vehicle. Although there isn’t much bus service from McLeodganj to the nearby cities, you may easily take a bus to Dharamshala ISBT. You can take a bus or a taxi from here to McLeodGanj. For reaching Dharamshala, you choose from any of the following transport options-

By Road: All of Himachal Pradesh’s major cities may be reached by road from Dharamshala. Take a state-owned bus or travel along the national route to Dharamshala to get to this city. Buses run directly to this city from Chandigarh (275 km), Jalandhar (154 km), and Amritsar (187 km). From Dharamshala, there are Volvo, luxury, and sleeper buses that travel to Delhi, Amritsar, Jalandhar, and Chandigarh.

By Train: The closest significant railway station is 85 kilometres distant in Pathankot. Many trains that travel to Jammu and Kashmir make stops in Pathankot. To get to Dharamshala from Pathankot, you can take a taxi or a bus. Even though Kangra Mandir railway station is only 22 kilometres from Dharamshala, it does not have good access to big cities.

Day 1: Dharamkot to Kareri Village and Trek to Kareri Lake

The meeting point for the trek is Himtrek campsite situated in Dharamkot, Mcleodganj. On day 1, you will be going from the campsite to the village of Kareri, the transportation for which is not included in the package. Trekkers will have to pay extra for the same. Your drive to the Kareri village will start after reaching Dharamkot and meeting the rest of the group. After reaching Kareri village, you will be starting the trek to Kareri Lake. As you trek alongside the Kareri Nullah Stream and through several bridges, the trail gradually ascends from level terrain to mountainous terrain. Enjoy the ideal elliptical glacial lake surrounded by subtropical trees and alpine grasslands as you take in the splendour of nature. Cherish the views of Kareri lake and spend your time there. Reach your campsite after absorbing majestic views the trek brings you. Spend the night at the campsite near the lake and relax properly after having dinner.

Day 2: Kareri Lake to Kareri Village and back to Dharamkot

On day 2, After a filling breakfast, set out early in the morning to head out. Get ready to descend back to Kareri village. Follow the same trail to descend back. Descending will take less time than the climb. Once you reach Kareri village, vehicles would be there to drive you back to Mcleodganj. Again, this transportation cost is not included in the package and the trekkers would have to bear it on their own. Reaching Mcleodganj would mark the end of your trek.
