The hike is a round trip of about 18 km, but may be slightly shorter or longer depending on the route it takes. Where Is Triund Trek Located?

The trip to Triund is set against the backdrop of Dharamshala in Kangra district of HP.

It begins from the small mountain village of Dharamkot, above McLeodganj. The trail then goes to the forested slopes of the Dhauladhar Range and then reaches the open meadows of Triund. As Dharamkot is located near McLeodganj, Triund is one of the most convenient treks in the Himalayas while visiting the Dharamshala region. The typical sequence is:

The trail runs from Dharamkot to Gallu Temple area, Forest Trail, Magic Viewpoint and finally reaches Triund Top.

Typically, it is the same route taken during the descent.

Triund Trek Altitude & Height

The summit of the hike is at about 9,350 ft (2,850 m) above sea level. It is a much lesser climb than demanding high-altitude routes such as the 7 Lakes Trek Dharamshala, making Triund a more accessible option for beginners, but a good elevation gain from Dharamkot. There are some constant uphill stretches along the trail, so some fitness is a plus. One of the reasons that Triund has such spectacular views without having to embark on a technical mountaineering expedition is its altitude.

Triund Trek Distance

The distance of the Triund trek is around 18 km round trip, which is about 9 km trekking distance per day.

Walking distances vary depending on the specific starting point, conditions on the walking path and location of the campsite.

Usually it takes about 4-6 hours to climb and 3-4 hours to descend (speed, weather, rest times).

Don't estimate the hike based on distance. The sections up the hill are continuous and the stone and rock trail may make the climb seem more difficult than they actually are.

Triund Trek Difficulty

The Triund trek is an easy trek in the Himalayas.

Triund Trek Route

The normal path to Triund Trek starts from Dharamkot and slowly ascends through the forest
until reaching Triund Top. Trekkers who want to explore the higher and quieter landscapes around Dharamshala can also consider the Kareri Lake Trek.

The path first goes through thick woods. The trees thin out a bit, and the vistas start to open up as one ascends the hill.

The one fun part about the route is the change of scenery. The lower part of the walk is more like a trek through the woods, and the upper part is in a wide mountain ridge, overlooking the Kangra Valley and the Dhauladhar Range.
