Laka Glacier Trek is a popular trekking route in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is an easy to moderate level trek that takes you through some of the most scenic landscapes in the region, including gushing streams, and snow-capped mountains.

Trek starts from the picturesque town of Dharamkot, Mcleodganj and takes you through the Bhagsu Nag temple, which is a popular tourist attraction in the area. From there, you trek through the lush green forests of the Dhauladhar range, which is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna.

Laka Glacier is surrounded by snow-capped peaks, and the views from the top are simply breathtaking. As you climb higher, you will cross several streams and waterfalls, including the famous Bhagsu waterfall. How to Reach?

Beginning of the Laka glacier trek is in Dharamkot,McLeodganj the closest access point, whether you use a taxi, the public transportation system or your own vehicle. Although there isn’t much bus service from McLeodganj to the nearby cities, you may easily take a bus to Dharamshala ISBT. You can take a bus or a taxi from here to McLeodganj. For reaching Dharamshala, you choose from any of the following transport options-

By Road:

All of Himachal Pradesh’s major cities may be reached by road from Dharamshala. Take a state-owned bus or travel along the national route to Dharamshala to get to this city. Buses run directly to this city from Chandigarh (275 km), Jalandhar (154 km), and Amritsar (187 km). From Dharamshala, there are Volvo, luxury, and sleeper buses that travel to Delhi, Amritsar, Jalandhar, and Chandigarh.By Train:

The closest significant railway station is 85 kilometres distant in Pathankot. Many trains that travel to Jammu and Kashmir make stops in Pathankot. To get to Dharamshala from Pathankot, you can take a taxi or a bus. Even though Kangra Mandir railway station is only 22 kilometres from Dharamshala, it does not have good access to big cities.

By Air:

The primary domestic airport servicing Dharamshala is Gaggal Airport, which is located around 15 kilometres from the city core. From cities like Delhi and Chandigarh, airlines like Jagson Airlines, Air India Regional, and SpiceJet offer regular flight services.

Day 1: Trek from Dharamkot to Triund Top

The trek starts from Dharamkot where you’ll have to report on day one. From here, the trek will begin towards Triund top. The trek today will take you through the largest waterfall of Mcleodganj, Bhagsu falls. Take a moment to take in the beauty of the area, you can unwind for a while. Arrive at the campsite at Leta/Mana Village to relieve the weight of your bags. Afterwards, start climbing to the peak and take in the spectacular views that this location has to offer. Relish the majestic views the top has got for your eyes after the tiring ascend. Take in the panoramic sights and click pictures for your memories. After a strenuous trek, descend back to the campsite at Leta/Mana village, and prepare yourself to rest there. You will be provided dinner here, enjoy your dinner and refuel yourself with plenty of rest while connecting with the group members. Take proper sleep in your camps set under the stars.

Day 2: Triund Top to Laka Glacier

Wake up to a stunning sunrise and enjoy a hearty meal. Start heading to the Laka Glacier through Triund on the exhilarating adventure. You might see the trail completely covered in snow as you continue. Snow spots on the route will be visible as you go closer to Snowline, which will be a spectacular sight to behold. Ascend to the peak and take in the better views of the snow-covered mountains. Keep a watch out for the shy Himalayan wild goat or deer while admiring the Dhauladhar's stunning scenery. Spend some time there at the summit, click snaps, make memories, and admire the breathtaking views. After cherishing it all, start descending towards the campsite at Leta/Mana Village. Arrive at the campsite and it’s time for a beautiful sunset view for a relaxing experience. Enjoy some time with the group members again while chit-chatting around the camps under the starry sky as it is the last night of your trek.

Day 3: Laka Glacier to Dharamkot

This is the last day of your short and exciting adventure. At the campsite, savour one last breathtaking morning as you watch the sun rise behind the Dhauladhar. Have your breakfast before starting the last day of the trek. As you make your way down to Mcleodganj, take in the peaceful sight of a flock of sheep grazing in the lush meadows. By afternoon, you’ll reach Mcleodganj and mark the end of your trek. Your adventure has come to an end, and you get to bring lovely memories with you for the rest of your life!
