Begin your journey early morning from Haridwar (pickup at 6:00 AM) or Rishikesh (pickup at 7:00 AM). The scenic drive takes you through the holy town of Devprayag, where the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers merge to form the Ganges.
Continue through Srinagar and Rudraprayag, following the Alaknanda valley with its terraced fields and traditional Garhwali villages.Stop for breakfast at Devprayag and lunch at Rudraprayag.
The road gradually ascends through dense forests of pine, deodar, and rhododendron as you approach Ukhimath. Depending on road conditions and time, either proceed to Chopta or stay overnight at Sari village (for those interested in visiting Deoria Tal) or Ukhimath.
Evening tea and dinner will be served at the accommodation. Briefing about the next day's trek will be conducted after dinner.
Wake up early to witness a spectacular sunrise over the Himalayan peaks. After a hearty breakfast, begin your trek to Tungnath Temple by 7:00 AM. The well-paved stone path winds through lush meadows and rhododendron forests for 3.5 km, gaining approximately 3,500 feet in elevation.
Reach Tungnath Temple (12,073 ft), the world's highest Shiva temple and one of the Panch Kedars, in about 2-3 hours. After seeking blessings and a short rest, continue the steep 1 km climb to Chandrashila summit. The final ascent involves rocky terrain and can be challenging, but the 360-degree panoramic views from the top are absolutely rewarding.
From Chandrashila summit, marvel at the majestic peaks including Nanda Devi, Trishul, Kedar Peak, Bandarpunch, and Chaukhamba. On clear days, you can spot over 20 Himalayan peaks. Spend 30-45 minutes at the summit for photography and snacks before beginning your descent.
Return to Tungnath by 1:00 PM and reach Chopta by 3:30 PM. Evening is at leisure with hot tea and snacks, followed by dinner and overnight stay in camps or guesthouse.
Option 1: Deoria Tal Trek
After breakfast, drive 14 km to Sari village (1 hour). Begin a gentle 2 km uphill trek through dense forests and small streams to reach Deoria Tal. This pristine high-altitude lake offers stunning reflections of Chaukhamba peaks on clear days. The mythological significance links this lake to the Devas (gods) who are believed to have bathed here. Return to Sari for lunch and drive back to Chopta.
Option 2: Exploration around Chopta
Enjoy a relaxed morning with nature walks through the meadows of Chopta, often called "Mini Switzerland of India." Visit nearby viewpoints, practice photography, spot Himalayan birds like Monal pheasant, or simply relax amidst the serene environment. Optional short hikes to nearby ridges offer excellent views of the valley and surrounding peaks.
Evening campfire (weather permitting) with light music and cultural interactions. Overnight stay at Chopta.
Begin the descent journey after an early breakfast. The return drive offers different perspectives of the valleys and mountains you passed on Day 1. Stop at Rudraprayag for lunch and tea breaks at scenic spots along the route.
Reach Rishikesh by 4:00 PM and Haridwar by 5:00 PM, marking the end of your memorable Chopta-Chandrashila trek with HimTrek.
