The Ali Bedni Bugyal Trek is often described as one of the most beautiful meadow treks in India, but that description still falls short of what you actually experience here.
This journey through the Garhwal Himalayas is not defined by a single highlight, but by a continuous unfolding of landscapes – dense forests, hidden villages, vast meadows, and towering Himalayan peaks that seem to follow you at every step.
What begins as a quiet forest trail gradually transforms into something far more expansive. As you step out of the thick oak and rhododendron forests, the world suddenly opens up into Ali Bugyal – a massive, rolling meadow where the sky feels closer and the mountains feel within reach.
Further ahead lies Bedni Bugyal, equally breathtaking, yet more serene – home to the sacred Bedni Kund, where mythology, nature, and silence come together in a way that’s hard to describe but impossible to forget.
This is not a trek of extremes, it doesn’t demand technical skills or high endurance. But its just like maximum beauty with minimal technical difficulty. Making it perfect for beginners, nature lovers, and anyone looking to truly experience the Himalayas.
The meadows of Bedni Bugyal are not just landscapes, they are deeply woven into the spiritual fabric of Uttarakhand.
During the Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra, a once-in-12-years pilgrimage, thousands walk these very trails as part of a sacred journey dedicated to Goddess Nanda Devi.
It is believed that Bedni Kund reflects not only the mountains but also the intentions of those who stand beside it. Many trekkers find themselves unusually quiet here, not because they have to be, but because the place demands it.
There’s something about these meadows, a stillness, a presence, that makes you pause longer than expected.
The starting point of the Ali Bedni Bugyal Trek is Lohajung, a small Himalayan village in Uttarakhand. Since Lohajung is a remote location, the journey is completed in two stages- first reaching Rishikesh, and then traveling by road to Lohajung.

Yes, absolutely. The Ali Bedni Bugyal Trek is graded as moderate in difficulty, making it an ideal choice for beginners who maintain a reasonable level of fitness. The trail involves gradual ascents with no technical climbing sections. Most days require 5–7 hours of walking on well-defined paths. We recommend that first-timers undertake at least 30–45 minutes of cardio exercise daily for 3–4 weeks before the trek to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience.
The trek is accessible year-round, each season offering a distinctly different experience. May–June brings lush greenery and blooming wildflowers with clear mountain views. September–November offers crisp skies, golden meadows, and excellent peak visibility after the monsoon clears. December–February transforms the bugyals into a snow-covered winter wonderland, though conditions are more demanding. March–April is the rhododendron season, when the forest trails burst into stunning colour. For most trekkers, May–June and September–October are considered the sweet spots.
Mobile network coverage is largely unavailable beyond Lohajung on the trek route. BSNL networks may have intermittent connectivity at certain points, but do not rely on it for communication. Inform your family and friends in advance about the days you'll be off-grid. HimTrek's trek staff carry emergency communication equipment for safety purposes. There are also no ATMs at Lohajung or along the trail — ensure you withdraw sufficient cash at Rishikesh before departure.
A well-packed bag makes all the difference. Your essentials include: a 40–50 litre trekking backpack, sturdy ankle-support trekking shoes (broken in beforehand), thermal base layers, a fleece mid-layer, a waterproof outer shell jacket, trekking trousers, wool socks, a woollen hat and gloves, a UV-protection sunhat, sunscreen (SPF 50+), a personal water bottle (1 litre minimum), a torch or headlamp with spare batteries, and any prescription medication you require.
